About the Artwork
This privately commissioned work grew out of conversations and shared concept development between the collector and me. Its starting point was indirectly inspired by the female protagonist of the game Silent Hill f. As I have not played the game myself, the painting is not a direct interpretation of its story. Instead, I developed a visual language specific to this work from the character impressions and discussions provided by the collector.
Tung blossoms and red spider lilies face one another, exploring the passage of life from blooming to withering, and from presence to disappearance. The white tung blossoms and vivid red spider lilies do not simply represent life and death; they mirror different stages of life. One falls soon after its brief bloom, while the other flowers at the boundary between life and death. The cracks across the figure’s skin mark the traces left by transformation—breaking is not necessarily an ending, but may be the beginning of another form. Through the figure of “Sachiko,” the work gazes at the blurred and unavoidable boundary between life, death, and existence.
